The National President, Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) Alhaji Balarabe Musa,?on Thursday expressed concern over the?high rate of unemployment?in the country, saying there was need to adopt another approach to address the issue.
?Musa told the News Agency of ?Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the number of unemployment ?had?increased to about 15 million ?to 20 million.
‘’We have unemployed post-secondary school graduates numbering 15 million to 20 million, how can you have peace in that situation?
“This number is more than the population?of a medium-sized country, nobody is happy with the development not even the government.
Musa said?the strategy to address the issue had to change from one based on self-interest to one based on public interest.
?‘’You know during our time when public interest was primary, self-interest was secondary, we registered some progress, some of it is still?visible.'’
The CNPP chairman said that public interest should be the over riding interest so that?automatically the nation could move in the right direction, including the?development of the country's financial system.
On the security situation, Musa?criticised the spate of uncertainty in the nation's security system and called for the restructuring of the system, which, he noted, was drawing the?country backward.
‘’ Let us have a system based on public interest first and enlightened self-interest second. Let us throw away this mindless privatisation, commercialisation and deregulation in the country, as those are?imperialist imposition
?“Let us be ourselves; let us go back to the middle role of the state in the economy to ensure peace, equality, dignity of the human person as well as?the development of the entire nation,’’ he said. (NAN)
