Heartland defender, Orji Kalu, is injured and will take no further part in Nigeria’s pre-AFCON plans. The player was declared unavailable by Nigeria’s head coach, Stephen Keshi as the nation prepares for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Kalu was one of the two players missing during the Super Eagles’ training session on Monday after Keshi announced a 24-man provisional list largely made up of players from Nigeria Premier League (NPL) clubs. The Heartland full-back informed supersport.com of his injury.
“I’ve been down for a week now with an injury and it’s painful that this is happening at a time I’m supposed to join the Nations Cup camp. It is an injury around the knee which I have recovered from earlier. But I got a knock on it last week and now I can’t even train at all.
“I’ve already gone to the hospital, and I did so again (Monday) and had to spend virtually all of the day having a scan around it. Hopefully, I will get the result tomorrow (Tuesday) and the doctor will explain the extent of the injury as well,” said the defender.
Keshi has called up Lobi Stars’ left-back, Bassey Ezekiel to replace Kalu.
