The Nigerian Army has over the weekend graduated the 8th set of 167 officers in counter terrorism at the Nigerian Army Training Centre, NATRAC, in Kotangora, Niger State.
?The Chief of Army staff,?? Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika represented by Commander? of Artillery corps of the Nigerian Army , Major General Amnon Kwaskebe said at the graduation that the training was designed to raise the combat efficiency of the Nigerian Army in addressing contemporary? security? challenges facing the nation.
He explained that the training in basic counter terrorism was targeted at officers up to the rank of Majors and would help prepare the officers to tackle terrorism, insurgency, hostage taking/kidnapping, armed robbery and assassinations, among other security challenges in the country.
According to him “These challenges call for regular reviews of existing internal security operations and by implication, our training focus and priority.”
Iherijika said the Nigerian Army would continue to commit resources to ensure that its personnel receive?? first class training in order to tackle the challenges facing? the country.
The army chief told the officers that, “The training you have received within the last five weeks of rigorous activities has moulded you sufficiently with the requisite professional competence to tackle the challenges you are likely to meet in the field“,
“To appreciate the importance of intelligence as key driver in irregular operations, special package on intelligence has been included and conducted by counter terrorism experts, from the Directorate of Military Intelligence and Department of State Security,” he added.
He also disclosed that the Nigerian Army has established structures on Civil/ Military Affairs to drive the programmes of the army to the Nigerian public by restructuring the office of Nigerian Army Transformation into Army Transformation and Innovation Centre.
