The Kogi State police command has arrested a 46-year-old suspected traditionalis,t Hosea Folorums, over the murder his four-month-old son.
The commissioner of police, Kogi State Command, Alhaji Mohammed Katsina, who paraded the suspect in Lokoja yesterday, said the suspect committed the heinous crime on December 31, 2012.
The suspect, a native of Egbe in Yagba West local government area of Kogi State, was alleged to have hatched the plan to kill the baby on New Year eve for money making rituals.
The CP said that on the fateful day at about 11:55pm, the suspect quietly moved the baby from the mother’s bedside when she was deeply asleep, killed the child and he hurriedly buried him.??
Katsina added that through a tip off, the ambush squad at Egbe was able to arrest the suspected murderer, saying that after a thorough investigation the police in the area took him to the headquarters in Lokoja for further interrogation.
The commissioner noted that in the course of interrogations, the suspect took the police to a site where he hurriedly buried his little Sunday Folunsho.
Katsina said the police had to exhume the corpse to enable a pathologist in Lokoja to perform autopsy to ascertain the mode of killing, saying the suspect would be prosecuted after the report might have been submitted.
The police boss, who described the situation as a season of madness, stressed that the get rich quick syndrome has rubbished the sense of reasons of many Nigerians.
Reacting to the unfortunate situations, the liaison officer 1 of Yagba West local government area Mr.Tunji Aro, said in the history of the council, things like this had never happened where a father will kill his child for whatever reason.
Aro assured the community that adequate security measures will be put in place to forestall reoccurrence of such nefarious behaviour.
