Damino Damoche
Tunjalux Music 2011
Damino Damoche, who
was born Olaniyan Damilola Ibrahim, is a Lagos-born hip-hop artist. He
started out with a group called ‘Middle Guys’, but he soon decided to
go solo. His debut album features 15 tracks, including an intro and
three instrumentals.
The album opened
with an introduction skit, followed by “Fall in the Circle” where he
toed the same style as the “Free Madness” crooner, Terry G. On the
track he featured an upcoming act, Drama, who raps in Yoruba language
over the high tempo beat. Following this is “Obo To Che”, a remix of
his lead single. It is also delivered on a high tempo tone.
Featuring upcoming
acts Azegin and Yung Lexy, Damoche renders “Dance up Your Sorrow” in a
manner that begs for Terry G’s compulsive vocals. He sings in Yoruba,
advising his audience to dance and forget their pain. “Pay My Money” is
also a dance track where he urges the president, governor of Lagos
State and independent music marketers, popularly known as Alaba boys,
to pay him his royalties and other allowances. On “Spend Money”, he
featured upcoming musicians, Prince Baton, who brought a twist to the
track with his reggae flows, and Baddo, who sings in Yoruba. “Shayo Yi
Ti Poju” is a celebratory dance track, where he says everything he has
now is in excess.
“Feel Highray”,
featuring former House of Ginjah artist, I.Q and Stormy Zino, is
delivered in a very flat manner where Damoche misses his beat on many
counts. Next up is a fast version of his lead single “Obo To Che”,
which is followed by DJ Kelvin’s mix of the same .
“Wan Sanwo” features Zeeworld, Enny and 2luv and is another track where he introduces himself to his audience.
Misses
On this debut,
there is no self-delivered track. Damino Damoche had guest artists –
all fellow upcoming artists – on all the tracks. Despite working with
11 producers, including himself, which did not pay off, most of the
songs were delivered on similar beats. In addition, the album had four
versions of his lead single “Obo To Che”, which ironically didn’t
appear on the album.
