Court Remands 2 For Allegedly Stealing Children

A Benin Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded two persons, Courage Eholor-Igwe, 27 and Efe Ogaga, 19, for allegedly stealing two children.

The accused were arraigned for “alleged conspiracy and stealing of two children”.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that while Eholor-Igwe pleaded guilty, Ogaga pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, Cpl. Samson Orirhovboro, contravens Sections 516, 512 and 371(1) of the Criminal Code.

Orirhovboro told the court that the accused persons allegedly committed the offence on Oct. 21, 2012, at Useh Market and Useh Quarters in Benin.

Orirhovboro alleged that Ogaga stole a four-year old at Useh Quarters while Eholor-Igwe stole a child of five at Useh market.

He added that the accused persons were caught while taking the children away.

However, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Faith Asagba, directed the accused persons to be remanded in prison custody and adjourned hearing to Feb. 25. (NAN)
