The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has shifted the commencement date for the DStv sponsored league for men from March 9 to 15. The federation said this is because few days to the announced jump ball date, only 9 teams have registered for the new season.
In a letter signed by federation scribe, Francis Gbiri to all DSTV league teams and technical officials, the federation said in view of the inability of all the teams to register early it has become necessary to admit that the commencement date has clearly become unachievable.
It said after consultation with sponsors MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, it was agreed that the most realistic will be March 15. “This is to inform you that few days before the announced jump ball date of March 9 only nine (9) teams have registered for the new season. These are Kano Pillars, Kada Stars, Bauchi Nets, Plateau Peaks, Nigeria Immigration, Markmentors, Union Bank, Dodan Warriors and Oluyole Warriors.
In view of the above, it has become necessary to admit that the commencement date has clearly become unachievable. We have therefore consulted with our sponsors Multichoice Nigeria Limited and they are in agreement that the most realistic date will now be March 15 by which time the federation would also be in possession of the sponsorship fund, a situation that will certainly be helpful to all stakeholders.”
