Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has assured residents of Asaba that the current drainage project going on in the town is comprehensive and will adequately check erosion in the state capital.
Dr. Uduaghan, who gave the assurance while inspecting some projects in Asaba, ordered the contractor to fast-track the project to enable the residents of Asaba to have immediate relief.
He explained that though it was difficult to appreciate the progress of work in a drainage project, he was nonetheless satisfied with the pace of work.
“I am pleased with the pace of work. Drainage work has a complicated process and I believe the construction company is doing a good job. This will help solve the erosion problem in Asaba and environs,” he said.
The governor promised that the drainage project would be extended to connect internal roads in Asaba, and pledged that within two or three years, there would be an effective drainage system in the town.
Governor Uduaghan also encouraged youths in the state to devise means of empowering themselves rather than depending solely on government. Engineer Pierre Karim of Modis Construction who conducted the governor round the drainage site along Okpanam and Anwai roads said the project was a master underground drainage system.
He said that the drainage would channel flood into the Anwai River, and explained that his company was currently carrying out excavation work and constructing a 200-metre retaining wall to protect the Infant Jesus Academy building which is close to the drainage site.
He also explained that his company was constructing kerb stones to create a walkway along the drainage system and promised to deliver not just a quality job but would meet specifications and complete on schedule.
Meanwhile, the installation of a five kilowatts digital television transmitter and accessories at the Delta Broadcasting Service Asaba would be completed in four weeks’ time.
This was disclosed by Engineer Moses Ojo of Comfax Nig. Ltd. when the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan paid an unscheduled visit to inspect the progress of work at the station. He said when the new digital transformer was fully functional, DBS Asaba would have a wider coverage and reception.
