Nigerians have now been given the green-light to port their mobile phone lines to any networks of their choice after the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Monday launched the Nigerian Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service.
The MNP allows mobile phone subscribers to migrate from one mobile service provider to another without changing their mobile phone number. It empowers subscribers to terminate their relationship with their current network service provider if they are dissatisfied with the quality of services provided.
This service is provided by all GSM mobile operators in Nigeria – MTN, GLOBACOM, ETISALAT and AIRTEL – free of charge.
However, that’s is not the main story. The breaking news this week was the palace coup by MTN to convince Etisalat’s brand icon and poster boy Hafiz Oyetoro aka ‘SAKA’ to port his line to MTN.
