Nigeria’s former military ruler, General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd), has become the first opposition candidate to win a presidential election in Nigeria.
General Buhari, 72, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), beat his major opponent, Nigeria’s incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan by securing 52.4% of votes cast in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, according to results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
