A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday fixed July 19 to take the plea of five police officers accused of unlawfully killing former leader of the Boko Haram sect, late Mohammed Yusuf.
Those charged to undergo the trial are J.B. Abang, Akeera, and Madu Buba, all assistant commissioners of police, Mohammed Ahmadu, a chief superintendent of police and Adamu Gado, a sergeant.
Justice Donatus Okorowo, who presided, said the adjournment was to allow the prosecutor to amend and file a fresh charge.
Earlier, Mr R.N. Ojabo, the prosecution counsel, filed an oral application seeking the leave of the court to amend the charge.
Mr Paul Erokoro (SAN), counsel to the accused persons, expressed disgust over the action, saying the trial was political as the allegation was misdirected at his clients.
