Bishop Archibong Archibong, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Cross River, has called on Nigerians to learn to live in peace irrespective of ethnic or religious differences. Archibong made the call yesterday in Calabar in an interview with journalists.
The CAN chairman, who spoke sequel to the recent bombings in parts of the country, said that there was no religion that promoted violence.
He said, “Let us live in peace, which is the best thing we can do for one another.’’
The bishop urged those who had links with members of the Boko Haram sect to talk to them to pursue peace, stressing that there were other things they could do with their lives.
“We keep praying that God will touch them so that they can realise that there are things they can do with the lives God gave them.’’
Archbong said that as the chief security officer of the federation, President Goodluck Jonathan should rise to the challenge.
He also said that this was the time Nigerians should rise up to assist in arresting the situation for the good of the country.
According to him, the president has to put his house in order as the chief security officer of the nation by ensuring that the right people are put in the right places.
“All hands must be on deck, we should do whatever we can to help this nation because we have no other country than Nigeria.
The CAN chairman, however, cautioned the government on the futility of recognising the sect as was being canvassed by some people.
“It will be dangerous to recognise them,’’ Archibong warns.
He said that those in authority should be careful in initiating policies that would breed controversy. (NAN)
