The Lagos State House of Assembly has again called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency build pedestrian crossings in all Federal roads in Lagos especially the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.
Hon. Ipoola Omisore, representing Ifako-Ijaye Constituency II moved the motion under matter of urgent public importance at the plenary session.
He said “Lagos-Abeokuta expressway is a busy highway in Lagos State which needs pedestrian bridges as many lives have been lost on this highway.
“This is not the first time am moving this motion on the floor of the House, calling on the federal government to urgently build pedestrian bridges in order to reduce rate of accident on this busy road.”
The Lawmaker explained further that Lagos State Government could not continue to watch lives of its citizens being unnecessarily wasted due to the nonchalant attitude of the FG to provide necessary infrastructure on its roads across the State.
Omisore expressed dismay over the incessant killing of people by high-speeding vehicles especially at Alakuko, Kollington, Iyana-Ipaja, Abule-Egba and Ijaye bus stop, while referring to children as the most vulnerable.
Contributing, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade and Rotimi Olowo also expressed displeasure over loss of lives of our future leaders on daily basis to road accidents in the state.
The duo however implored the Federal Government to build the pedestrian bridges in all the Federal roads in Lagos State.
Another Member who also spoke on the matter, Hon. Rasaq Balogun said instead of calling on Federal Government, the State Government should assist the residents on this axis in building pedestrian bridges.
Speaker, Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji informed members that he had met with the Governor Babatunde Fashola on the matter and he promised to urgently look into it.?
