About 10 students of the Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, may have lost their lives in mysterious circumstances.
LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that the students of the institution had lost an unspecified number of their mates in the past three days in circumstances many consider mysterious. Four students suddenly dropped dead between Monday and yesterday morning.
A senior non-academic staff of the college who did not want his name in print confirmed the incident to our correspondent. He also said that he had also moved his family from the official quarters and added that the mystery surrounding the death of the students of the school in the last few days was beyond comprehension.
Following the ugly development, our correspondent gathered that the students went on rampage, destroying the school’s property, even as some staff took to their heels to escape their wrath.
Our correspondent further learnt that the official residence of the bursar of the school was completely destroyed by the rampaging students.
The state government had ordered the immediate closure of the institution, to avoid further destruction of lives and property.
The permanent secretary in the ministry of education, Alhaji Abubakar Salihu told LEADERSHIP in an interview in his office, that the action was aimed at curtailing the escalation of the crisis.
He pointed out that although they were yet to be properly briefed on what led to the students’ uprising in the school but because the provost of the college was away on official assignment, they had despatched a team to find out what actually happened.
